We had doubts that Apple had actually overtaken Wal-Mart as the number one music retailer in the US, but it looks as though the rise of iTunes gift cards sales and new iPod owners made Apple succeed. Apple is not doing much to celebrate but is still going to offer “4 billion songs to 50 million customers”, but it says iTunes was the big dog January and February. Of course, there’s a lot of 2008 left, so Wal-Mart may surpass iTunes again.
Like we predicted about a week ago, the long-rumored GSM Palm Centro is now officially available on AT&T upsetting Sprint’s expiring exclusivity, giving AT&T users access to the amazingly small handset. Unlike Unlike Sprint’s version, the AT&T Centro uses EDGE data for a somewhat slower browsing experience; besides that, though, it features a 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD slot, Bluetooth 1.2, support for AT&T’s push-to-talk service, and a full QWERTY keypad. Price with contract and rebate is $99.99.
It looks as though HP does not like their native country, because the iPAQ 610 series that sports a sweet touch sensitive scroll wheel embedded in the keypad will not be available ever in the US. Devicewire, reports that the iPAQ 614 will be available to its customers as soon as next Monday an astonishing £351.99 (about $750). Ok HP we didn’t want this device anyway.
AT&T Palm users get ready for the Centro, it’s coming next week. We’ve have gotten confirmation that next Tuesday will be the day that Palm’s budget handset launches on AT&T. We predict the price will be $99, at this time only white color is confirmed; more next week at launch time.
Crazy amounts of 3G handsets were not the only gadgets showed off at this year’s Mobile World Congress. NetIndex, Kaga Electronics and Runcom showed off their WiMAX-enabled portable VoIP phone. According to PR Newswire , the companies joined forces to develop a VoIP handset that used a 802.16e module, and aside from “realizing all-IP voice communication,” it also features a web browser and integrated WiFi. We do not know when this will be available, but we guess next year.
Zune owners are now able to buy the Zune Home AV Kit for $19.99 an awesome deal considering that stores like Circuit City still sell it for the $99.99 list price. The kit allows you to hook up either first or second generation models to your TV or receiver, then control it from your couch using the included remote. Meaning that you can listen to your Zune music library on your stereo or watch movies on your TV, (at a resolution of just 640×480). The AC-powered Zune dock also charges your Zune, and the kit comes with an extra sync cable, useful if there’s a PC nearby. All you Zune owners nab this deal.

Today Creative made a good choice in dropping the 32GB Zen’s price from $349 to $299. Right now the 32GB Zen costs the same as the 8GB iPod touch making it a better choice for bargain hunters. Looking at the features of the Zen it is more comparable to the iPod nano, priced at $199 for the 8GB model. For an additional $100 you get four times the capacity and an FM tuner. We still love the iPod better, sorry Zen.
There is a photoshop picture circulating around the internet, that is supposed to show what the next Sony Ericsson phone, play name Bei Bei will look like. More to come soon.
Here are the rumored features:
