Toshiba Satellite NB105 Netbook not that great

It looks like the Toshiba is going to release the same low-margin UMPC’s that everyone else has already released. Toshiba’s newest ultra portable is, the NB105. Back in July, Toshiba was showing off a touchscreen UMPC and talking about how the “six or seven” netbook market segments it had identified meant that it wasn’t going to compete directly with the Eee PC. Unfortunately the NB105 has nothing special to show off it is expected to have a 8.9-inch screen, 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and Windows XP. No final pricing details yet, but the NB105 is expected to be available in Mexico in November.
Dell releases new Latitude E series

Dell is releasing a bunch of new laptops today, and the first are new Latitudes. Just like we told you some time ago, the E series is replacing the D series, with seven new models in total. The E6500, E6400, E5500, and E5400 are usual laptop models with 15.4 and 14.1-inch displays, while the E4400 and E4200 are ultra portables and the E6400 ATG is a tough notebook. The 12-inch E4200 is the lightest business laptop Dell has ever made, weighing only 2.2 pounds, while the 13.3-inch E4200 weighs 3.4 pounds. Dell has told us that the batteries on the usual laptops can last for up to 19 hours, which sounds to good to be true. The new models also are available with a backlit keyboard, and can be used with dual pointing devices. Consumers can also add a fingerprint reader, and WWAN options including WiMAX.
REDFLY now available for $499

REDFLY is now available for a sweet $499. The REDFLY features WinMo version 5 or 6 on a generous 8-inch screen. Unfortunately the REDFLY is not useable if you don’t have your phone. We recommend that you spend your money on a laptop that is more powerful as well as more useful. But we do have to credit to the REDFLY because it brings your phone and a little laptop together.

Dell's Latitude E-series roadmap

Here we have Dell’s Latitude roadmap displaying up until Q1 of 2009. You may recall when we broke the E-series news back in February. Sadly the details of each of the new E-series is still to come. Until that time arrives, sit back and relax knowing that Dell’s thinner, lighter Centrino 2-based E-series laptops with amazing “all day batteries” and an emphasis on design are coming very soon.

Acer has released many laptops in the past year, but that doesn’t stop them from expanding their selection even further, with the company now reportedly planning on releasing a pair of new notebooks sporting Blu-ray drives and high res screens. It is not entirely offical at this time, but DigiTimes reports that the laptops will consist of a 16-inch and an 18.4-inch model, both of which will feature a “Full HD panel”. Unfortunately at this time, we have no other details on the laptops, but they will be priced between $1,900 and $2,240 when they released in the second quarter of this year.

Lenovo X300 gets benchmarked, Video

There have been many reviews of Lenovo’s slim new X300, but if you still are not sure if you want to buy it check out some benchmarks and video courtesy of NoteBook review. Lenovo’s X300 did not surprise us much, the X300 trailed both the Macbook Air and Sony Vaio TZ in processor tests, but won for overall system performance. The video (after the jump) shows off the X300 from every angle and compares it to the Thinkpad T61 and X61.

Intel sued for Core 2 Duo patent infringement

Intel is known for their mighty Core 2 Duo, but it looks as though the processor was not home-grown. A lawsuit filed today by the University of Wisconsin claims that the processor infringes on patented technology developed by one of its professors. In 1998, the computer science department chair Gurindar Sohi presented some of his ideas relating to instruction level parallelism to Intel and offered to sell them, but Intel never paid for them yet used them to created the Core 2 Duo, according the the lawsuit. Intel says that it’s been talking to the Badgers for over a year and has not recieived a complaint, Intel may want to do something quick because the University of Wisconsin is asking for the court to stop shipments of the Core 2 Duo in addition to monetary damages and legal fees.
